Tow Truck Services in Lake Norman & Greater Charlotte
TowKing provides 24/7 towing and roadside assistance throughout Lake Norman and the Greater Charlotte area, including Cornelius, Huntersville, Davidson, Mooresville, Denver, Concord, Kannapolis and North Charlotte.
We regularly respond to breakdowns and towing calls on I-77, I-485, I-85, I-40, NC-73, NC-115, NC-150 and US-21, as well as homes, parking lots, dealerships and repair shops throughout our service area.
Most tow calls are simple. The ones that aren’t usually come down to one question: why won’t the car move? We answer that before we pull anything.
Towing an all-wheel-drive car with wheels turning on the road puts load through the transmission, transfer case and differentials. We don’t guess. Where the manufacturer provides a manual neutral release, we use it — on many cars it sits by the shifter or center console, on some Acura and Jaguar models it’s under the hood, and on some it has to be turned and locked in position or it springs back and the transmission locks again. If the car can’t go into neutral safely, it goes on the flatbed with all four wheels off the ground.
An unresponsive EV is often a dead 12-volt system, not a dead traction battery. We carry a professional-grade jump starter that can bring the low-voltage system back up so the car’s electronics will allow a safe load — we’ve started cars other operators had already given up on. We follow the manufacturer’s procedure for accessing the low-voltage system and putting the car into the mode the maker specifies for transport. We never force EV wheels to turn. There is no EV surcharge.
Dragging a car with locked wheels onto a steel bed damages tires, drivetrain and suspension. We carry skates and specialized wrecker rollers — the rollers sit under the locked wheels so the car moves while its own wheels stay still. This equipment is uncommon around here: one customer called about ten local companies looking for it, and several told him rollers like these don’t exist.
If the steering is locked and the wheels are turned, forcing the car straight won’t straighten them. We check first whether the manufacturer allows the steering to be released; if not, the car moves on skates or rollers.
We built our own low-profile ramps to cut the loading angle for sports cars, lowered cars and luxury cars with a low front bumper, splitter or side skirts. The car goes up slowly and under control so the bumper, splitter, exhaust and underbody never touch the bed.
A car with a wheel missing or a broken suspension corner isn’t automatically a refusal. A roller and a large skate positioned correctly on the affected corner support the car through loading and unloading.
Soft straps instead of chains wherever metal-to-metal contact needs to be avoided, and correct manufacturer attachment points rather than whatever is easy to reach.
The common failure is using winch power to make up for missing equipment. We recently picked up a BMW another operator had already tried to load: the wheels were locked, no rollers or skates were used, and the front suspension was used as a winching point. By the time we arrived the front wheels sat wrong and the suspension components were visibly damaged. We photographed the existing damage and showed the owner before touching the car.

Arrival times
Our trucks move throughout the service area during the day, so a Mooresville call can sometimes be reached faster than a Cornelius one. These are typical arrival times when a truck is available and traffic is normal — not guarantees.
During rush hour, a call in Huntersville or Mooresville can take 35–40 minutes. If we’re already on a job, we calculate a realistic ETA based on the truck’s current location, remaining drive time and traffic — and tell you before you book. We don’t promise 30 minutes when the actual wait will be much longer.
| Cornelius | 10–20 min |

| Davidson | 15–25 min |
| Huntersville | 20–30 min |
| Mooresville | 25–35 min |

How it works
From the first call to the car sitting where you asked — here is exactly what happens, and what we check at each stage.
Tell us where the vehicle is and where it needs to go. We confirm the service area and give you the price and ETA before dispatch.
Does it go into neutral? Do the wheels turn? Is it stuck in Park? Does the electronic parking brake release? These details determine the safest way to load it.
Existing scratches, dents and visible damage are photographed before loading begins.
A vehicle that rolls normally can be loaded quickly. Locked wheels, tight access, low clearance or damaged suspension may require additional equipment and more time. We take the time needed to load it safely.
The vehicle is secured and every attachment point is checked before transport.
Pay by card, tap-to-pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Zelle, cash or Square invoice before the vehicle is unloaded at the destination.
We place the vehicle where requested when access allows. For contactless towing, we photograph the vehicle after delivery and confirm its location and key placement by text.
If you can’t stay with the vehicle, leave the key in a location we agree on and get on with your day. We handle the tow and keep you updated at each stage:
If the drop-off is a repair shop or dealership, we tell you who received the keys. If you requested a key drop box, we confirm that the key was placed inside.
On the road
We respond to highway breakdowns and accident towing calls on I-77, I-485, I-85, I-40, NC-73, NC-115, NC-16, NC-150 (River Highway), US-21, US-70 and Charlotte Highway. Common calls include flat tires, battery and alternator failures, vehicles that won’t start and vehicles damaged in a collision.
On a live shoulder, the tow truck is positioned to help protect the work area, warning lights stay on, and loading is handled efficiently without skipping the steps needed to protect the vehicle.
After an accident, if law enforcement allows you to choose your own towing company, you can call TowKing directly to the scene. We are not an impound or storage facility — your vehicle is transported to the destination you choose.
What we haul
We tow cars, SUVs, crossovers, light-duty pickups and full-size vans — including vehicles that won’t start, won’t go into neutral, have locked wheels, a missing or damaged wheel, or collision damage.
If a vehicle is outside the safe capacity of our equipment, we’ll tell you before dispatch and can recommend a heavy-duty towing or recovery company when needed.

Straight answers
If there’s an obvious, safe and less expensive way to get you moving, we’ll tell you. A recent customer called for a tow to a tire shop after getting a flat tire. The vehicle had a usable spare, so instead of towing it, we changed the tire and the customer drove to the shop.
We don’t diagnose mechanical problems. If a jump start gets the vehicle running, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s safe to keep driving. A dead battery may be the symptom rather than the cause, and a failing alternator can leave the vehicle stranded again. When towing is the safer option, we can transport the vehicle to the repair shop or dealership you choose.
If you pay for the tow yourself, check whether your auto insurance includes towing reimbursement. Our towing receipts include the customer’s name, vehicle year, make, model and VIN, pickup and drop-off addresses, loaded mileage, service type and payment confirmation. Coverage and reimbursement depend on your individual insurance policy.

One front wheel was completely missing and the wheel studs were damaged. We used a wrecker roller and a large skate to support the affected corner, then winched the vehicle onto the flatbed without dragging the suspension or underbody. The same setup was used for unloading.
